Line up the pattern of the other rug and lay the rugs as close together with the tape as you can.
Make sure that you match the nap on the pieces of carpet being seamed together.
Place the carpet so that edges overlap 2 or 3 inches and that there are 2 to 3 inches of extra carpet.
As you move the iron press the carpet pieces behind it gently down into the tape while pushing the pieces tightly together.
Each piece of carpet you seam should be at least 4 feet 1 2 m wide.
Place the carpet pieces to be connected upside down so that the carpet seam tape can be easily placed on the bottom of the carpet.
Make sure you line up the edge of the carpet first.
Roll the carpet in the opposite direction when it comes time to lay it with the nap facing in to prevent waves.
Overlap the two pieces by about 2 inches with the edges that you want to join overlapping.
As you move down the seam with the iron roll over the joined seam behind the iron using a seam roller to press the carpet edges into the tape adhesive and ensure they lie flat.
Overlap two pieces of carpet at the seam by about two inches.
With white chalk make a line about 3 4 the width of the overlap or about 1 3 4 inches from the edge of the carpet and then cut along the line.
Unroll the two pieces of carpet you are piecing together so they are laying side by side.
Then press the rugs together to make them appear as seamless as possible.
Overlap the two pieces.
The two pieces of carpet should overlap by 2 to 3 inches 5 to 7 6 cm when you lay them down.
